Balfour Beatty Construction US has been selected by Anthracite Realty Partners and Bennett Benner Partners to provide preconstruction and construction services for a landmark high-rise in downtown Fort Worth.

Balfour Beatty is engaged in shaping the project’s final scope and contract, which includes the core, shell and interior finish-out of the new 25-story, 323,415-square-foot Class-AA commercial office tower at 640 Taylor St., which will be known as 640 Taylor.

The luxury, mixed-use tower will showcase ground floor retail shops, a 12th-floor sky lobby and conference centre, and an eatery featuring a sleek 3,400-square-foot dining deck overlooking Sundance Square and Burnett Park. Adjacent to the eatery will be a 3,200-square-foot roof garden with dramatic use of Texas native plants.

“As Tarrant County’s economy continues its forward momentum, 640 Taylor is an exciting and strategic project for our Fort Worth office,” said Read Ballew, president of Balfour Beatty’s Texas Division. “We are honoured to play a part in Fort Worth’s growth and are committed to the success of this world-class, landmark facility. We will leverage Lean construction practices and the latest virtual design technologies to efficiently deliver this project for Anthracite Realty Partners and Bennett Benner Partners.”

Ranked Tarrant County’s fourth largest general contractor by revenue, Balfour Beatty provides its Fort Worth clients with tenant interiors build-out and base building construction services for corporate commercial, healthcare, higher education, K-12, multifamily, aviation, municipal, and hospitality clients. The firm’s Tarrant County clients include Anthracite Realty Partners, Texas Health Resources, DFW International Airport, and numerous school districts across the county. In 2009, Balfour Beatty partnered with Bennett Benner Partners Architects and multiple trade partners to build the Fort Worth Police and Fire fighters Memorial, which was constructed to honour all local police officers, fire fighters and marshals who have died in the line of duty.

Scheduled for completion in December 2017, 640 Taylor will be the seventh tallest building in Fort Worth and the first one to exceed 200 feet since 2009. The new high-rise will ease downtown parking constraints by contributing 900 parking spaces.

During construction, Balfour Beatty plans to engage local subcontractors and tradespeople on the project wherever possible, offering collaborative partnerships with trade partners based on trust, fairness and opportunity. State wide, Balfour Beatty has delivered over 46 million square feet of Class A commercial office projects totalling more than $3 billion in Texas.
