Balfour Beatty wins infrastructure contracts in Hong Kong

30 December 2010

Hong Kong

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces today that Gammon Construction, the market-leading infrastructure contractor in Hong Kong in which Balfour Beatty has a 50% shareholding, has won a series of infrastructure contracts worth a total of HK$2.3 billion (£190 million).

A joint venture between Gammon Electrical and Mechanical and Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions has been awarded a five-year transmission line project in Hong Kong by CLP Power, covering the upgrading of 400kV overhead line assets and the refurbishment of existing lines as part of the customer’s ongoing lifecycle maintenance regime.

Gammon has also won a mechanical and electrical contract from MTR Corporation Limited. The contract is for the building services installations at Hong Kong University Station and Sai Ying Pun Station and forms part of MTR’s West Island Line extension to the existing network on Hong Kong Island. The project complements the award of the civils package for the stations to the Gammon – Nishimatsu joint venture earlier this year. Works are due for completion in June 2014.

Finally, Gammon has secured a contract for a swimming pool complex in Kwun Tong featuring several Olympic-size pools and ancillary facilities. The complex will incorporate a number of sustainability features including solar panels for electricity generation for both temporary site facilities and the permanent central supply, and a green roof. The contract is due for completion in 2014.
